.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

1) Above average temperatures and dry conditions remain though the weekend before a cold front moves in by Sunday evening.

2) Gusty winds associated with the frontal boundary may require issuance of a Lake Wind Advisory on Sunday night.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: An upper level ridge will continue to build over the region through this afternoon through Sunday bringing above average temperatures. By Sunday night a cold front will move through the area bringing near average temperatures on Monday and Tuesday. Monday`s chances for rain across northeastern most Montana are low, but increase in central and southern Montana. Rain totals are expected to remain below 0.01" west of HWY 24. Convection is possible with localized thunderstorms producing greater than 0.10" in some areas mostly in or near central Montana. At this moment there is moderate confidence a Lake Wind Advisory will be necessary for Fort Peck Lake on Monday with the passing of the cold front.

By Tuesday another upper level ridge will begin building bringing temperatures up. An omega block pattern is beginning to take shape late next week, with lows centered off the coast of California and over the Ohio Valley. Depending on how quickly these two lows move, Montana will remain warm and dry.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Winds were increased manually for Day 2. Forecast confidence is high for warm and dry conditions through the weekend. Confidence in exact timing is moderate but the strength of the cold front boundary is low to moderate.
