.SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Thursday) Issued at 220 PM EDT Wed Oct 1 2025

Dry and warm, but cooling, conditions through Friday morning. The building upper level ridge will drive the sfc high southward across the east coast. At the same time, moisture from Imelda will move out of the area as the system moves further off the coast. High temperature today will be in the low to mid 80s, and maybe even upper 80s in northwest Georgia. Temperatures should cool back down to the 70s tomorrow with northeast flow and dewpoints will be in a sweet-spot near 50 degrees. Overall, pleasant conditions.

With the lack of precipitation any drought conditions are not likely to improve through the early weekend. Even though a few spots have gotten locally heavy rainfall of >2" over the past week, precipitation has not been consistent or widespread enough to inhibit drying.

.LONG TERM... (Friday morning through next Tuesday) Issued at 220 PM EDT Wed Oct 1 2025

A high pressure regime will define the first part of the long term period, with an upper level ridge sliding over much of the eastern CONUS and surface high pressure over the Northeast slowly drifting towards the Mid-Atlantic. A tight pressure gradient between the high and Imelda will keep breezy northeasterly low level flow in place across the area through the weekend, with wind speeds between 8-12 mph and gusts up to 20 mph. The influence of high pressure will also keep conditions dry and precip-free on Friday and Saturday. Lows on Friday will be the coolest of the week, starting the morning in the mid to upper 50s across much of the forecast area, though they will be as cool as the upper 40s in the higher elevations of far northeast Georgia. High temperatures on Friday and Saturday afternoon will rise into the upper 70s or low 80s.

Late Saturday into Sunday, low level moisture will begin to increase, with dewpoints rising into the low to mid 60s by Saturday afternoon and upper 60s to low 70s by Sunday. Mid-range guidance also continues to come into better agreement regarding the development of a weak surface low in the northern Gulf by Sunday, though uncertainty remains with respect to its evolution and movement. The presence of such a low could spread additional moisture into central and north Georgia on its northeastern side and lead to a return of rain chances on Sunday and into the early parts of next week. At this time, PoPs of 25-40 percent have been maintained in central Georgia on Sunday, with slight chance PoPs of 15-25 percent spreading across the area overnight. On Monday, PoPs of 25-40 percent are forecast across the area during the afternoon. Temperatures will gradually climb from Monday through mid-week, with highs rising into the low 80s in north Georgia and mid 80s in central Georgia by next Wednesday.
