Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 132 AM PDT Sat Oct 4 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Temperatures remain below average this weekend through the start of next week with dry conditions.

* A warming trend will start Tuesday into at least Thursday with continued dry weather.

&&

.DISCUSSION...

* The low pressure responsible for two days of widespread rain and higher elevation snowfall is exiting the region today. With the exiting low, low level winds from the east to northeast are pushing some low clouds along the eastern slopes of the Sierra and into western NV. These low clouds will persist this morning before tapering off late morning. For today, we are on the far western edge of a larger scale trough that covers the western half of the US. With cooler north to northwest flow aloft, high temperatures will be upwards of 10-15 below average.

* By Sunday into Monday, a low pressure will drop south along the west coast on the periphery of the aforementioned larger scale trough. This will not give us any precipitation. But, it will keep our high temperatures upwards of 10 degrees below average and low temperatures up to 5 degrees below average. These readings are more common for mid-October.

* By late Monday into at least Wednesday, high pressure moves into the area. Our temperatures will trend up around 5 degrees on Tuesday, and another 5 degrees on Wednesday. This returns us to normal readings for October 10th, which is the mid-70s in western NV and mid-60s for most eastern Sierra communities. By Thursday into next weekend, there remains high uncertainty in evolution of the synoptic pattern. Ensembles are still having big discrepancies in showing either a deep trough over the area, or weak ridging. For now, we`ll keep mostly dry conditions and temperatures that trend toward climatology. -McKellar

.AVIATION...

* IFR/LIFR in freezing fog and ceilings at KTRK/KTVL until around 16z. The eastern Sierra can also expect mountain obscurations in low clouds through around 16-18z. Otherwise, VFR conditions prevail today.

* Winds are overall light for all terminals today, with sustained east to northeast winds around 5-10 kts and gusts to 15 kts. -McKellar
