.SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 1223 AM CDT Mon Sep 29 2025

Current radar imagery shows some lingering showers southwest of the CWA. Slight chance for these showers to sneak into our CWA will remain through late morning hours for our two farthest west column of counties. The upper low over the Desert Southwest has finally opened up into a negatively tilted trough and will gradually track east over the Central and High Plains through today. As the trough approaches the region, height and thickness falls as well as mostly cloudy skies will cool temperatures even more compared to yesterday. Highs will range from the upper 70s over much of the Caprock to lower to mid 80s off the Caprock. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible over eastern NM this evening, however are not expected to reach our FA. Mostly cloudy skies are expected to linger through the evening, however should clear from west to east overnight. Lows tonight will be about seasonal normal in the 50s to lower 60s.

&&

.LONG TERM... (Tuesday through Sunday) Issued at 1223 AM CDT Mon Sep 29 2025

Sadly, the cooler temperatures from Sunday and Monday do not continue for the rest of the week. The upper trough will continue to trek east Tuesday and Wednesday as upper ridging builds over southwestern CONUS and northern Mexico with the northeastern zone of the ridge clipping our region. Models are in better agreement with the upper level pattern for the latter half of the week. An upper low will open as it swings over the Pacific Northwest and amplify over the Desert Southwest through the end of the week. This will inevitably push the upper ridging directly over the region. The upper ridging will keep precipitation chances near zero as well as temperatures are expected to increase to well above seasonal normal (~10-15 degrees) as heights and thicknesses increase. Temperatures will slightly cool again by the weekend as the upper trough effectively squishes the upper ridging as it continues to track east over the region although conditions will remain dry.
