.DISCUSSION... Issued at 326 PM CDT Sat Sep 6 2025

...Synopsis...

Northwest flow continues today into Sunday before becoming more zonal heading into Monday. Shortwave ridging develops to the west, then moves eastward into the Northern Plains late Monday into Tuesday, bringing limited return flow ahead of a thermal boundary. This could bring showers and thunderstorms into parts of the area Monday evening through early Tuesday morning. A strong storm or two is possible, however, widespread severe storms are not supported. Wednesday looks to remain dry and warm as the ridge axis traverses the area. Southwest H5 flow develops heading into Thursday, allowing another mention of showers and thunderstorms late Wednesday night through the weekend. Ensembles support enough instability to bring a mention of strong thunderstorms into the forecast; however, confidence is too low at this time to know the exact details and timing.

...Frost Possible Tonight into Sunday Morning...

Cloud cover will gradually clear this evening and overnight, with good support for favorable radiative cooling across much of the area. Lows could fall into the lower 30s in the cooler spots; however, many areas will likely see mid to upper 30s with light winds. As such, there should be decent support for widespread frost potential across much of eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. A frost advisory will be in effect starting at 2am Sunday and will go through 8am Sunday.
