.DISCUSSION... Issued at 218 PM CDT Wed Sep 24 2025

Satellite shows a sharp, negatively-tilted trough over the Central Plains this afternoon. A band of moisture is in place from the Texas Panhandle through northern Illinois, just clipping far southeast Nebraska. This could produce a few sprinkles this afternoon until the moisture band shifts off to the south and dry air takes its place. Otherwise, a fair- weather cu field is developing across much of northeast Nebraska and western Iowa. Temperatures are in the upper 70s as of 2 PM and may touch the low 80s briefly by 5 PM.

Overnight tonight winds become calm, allowing for some patchy fog to develop, especially along the Missouri and Platte Rivers and in low-lying areas near bodies of water. Any fog should burn off by 9 AM.

A broad upper-level ridging pattern is setting up across the Central CONUS leading to a stretch of dry, mild weather. This stretch is only extended by the replacement of the ridge by another broad upper-level ridge over the weekend. The forecast will be nearly identical starting tomorrow through the weekend into early next week with mostly sunny skies and mild temperatures. Highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s, and overnight lows will be in the mid-50s to low 60s.
