Today and tonight...
An upper level trough centered over Canada extends southward over most of the eastern half of the country with Nebraska and Kansas on the backside of the upper trough. Winds are fairly light and variable across south central and central Nebraska and north central Kansas (around 5 mph) with mostly sunny to sunny skies. High temperatures today will be in the upper 60s to upper 70s. Winds will mostly be light out of the east to southeast tonight with low temperatures in the mid 40s to mid 50s.
Sunday through Tuesday night...
Winds will strengthen out of the south on Sunday during the afternoon (up to around 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph). Temperatures are expected to warm up to the mid 70s to near 80 degrees on Sunday. A shortwave trough may move overhead Sunday night resulting in a chance (15% to 20%) of showers and thunderstorms across portions of the area. Low temperatures Sunday night are expected to be in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Showers and storms may linger and/or redevelop across the area on Monday (15% to near 40% chance) into Monday night (15% to around 45% chance) with the shortwave/upper low nearby. Temperatures on Monday will warm up into the mid 70s to mid 80s with low temperatures Monday night in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Warmer temperatures are expected on Tuesday with highs in the low to mid 80s. Winds on Tuesday will be out of the south to southeast at around 5 to 10 mph with gusts up to around 15 mph. Low temperatures Tuesday night will mainly be in the lower 60s with light south to southeast winds.
Wednesday through Friday...
Upper ridging will build over the southern and central Plains on Wednesday with an upper trough/low strengthening over the West Coast. Winds across south central and central Nebraska and north central Kansas on Wednesday will be out of the southeast to south with gusts up to 15 to 25 mph. High temperatures on Wednesday will be similar to the previous day. Upper lift may begin to move over the area Wednesday night with a 15% to 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low temperatures Wednesday night will be in the low to mid 60s with south to southeast winds. Southerly winds continue Thursday through Friday with 15% to around 20% chances of showers and thunderstorms. High temperatures Thursday and Friday will be in the 80s, and low temperatures both nights will mostly be in the 60s.
