Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 1249 PM CDT Mon Sep 29 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Warm days and mild nights will continue for another week.

&&

.SHORT TERM (THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT)... A mid-level shortwave currently over West Texas will lift northeast over the area through tomorrow morning. Some light showers are noted just west of the CWA this morning but don`t expect more than some virga or a few sprinkles over the southern Edwards Plateau or Hill Country today with drier low levels and a dry layer around 700 mb suppressing any deep convection. Increased mid-level cloud cover will overspread the area from west to east, keeping highs today slightly cooler or similar to yesterday`s temperatures. Clouds will continue into the overnight hours with forecast low temperatures back into the 60s for most locations. Clearing skies are expected during the morning on Tuesday as the shortwave lifts north with mainly sunny skies by the afternoon tomorrow as mid-level ridging builds back over the area. Highs will be warmer tomorrow reaching into the mid-90s for many locations in the coastal plains and along the I-35 corridor with lows back into the 60s for Tuesday night.

&&

.LONG TERM (WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY)... South Central Texas remains on the eastern edge of high pressure through Thursday with dry northwesterly flow aloft. Highs peak Wednesday and Thursday under this pattern topping out in the upper 80s and low 90s over the southern Edwards Plateau and the Hill Country with mid to upper 90s elsewhere. Friday into the weekend upper ridging will continue over the area but some seabreeze activity may return to the coastal plains each afternoon/early evening, but that`s about it on any precipitation chances through the long term period. We`ll still keep the mild morning temperatures each day which will mostly be in the 60s across the area.

&&

.AVIATION (18Z MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY)... VFR conditions will continue through the next TAF period with only high clouds moving through the region. Winds in the Austin and San Antonio areas will be from the northeast to east at 5-10 kts through the afternoon and evening. DRT will have southeasterly winds at 5-10 kts. Winds will be light and variable overnight at all terminals.
