.DISCUSSION... Issued at 145 PM CDT Wed Sep 24 2025

This afternoon... Mid-level troughing over the Great Lakes is evident on GOES water vapor imagery this afternoon. As a result, low stratus/stratocu has stuck around across portions of central and east-central Wisconsin as moisture continues to be drawn south. Partial to total clearing was observed elsewhere.

Isolated showers will be possible for the remainder of the afternoon and evening as the mid-level trough continues to depart to the southeast. Otherwise, areas of fog will once again be possible north and west of the Fox Valley late tonight into early Thursday morning as low-level moisture gets trapped under a near- surface inversion. Localized reductions in visibilities to less than one mile will be possible, though no significant impacts are expected. Persistence forecast with little to no PoPs then continues into at least the middle of next week as an omega block sets up over the CONUS.

Temperatures... Highs are progged to read well above average throughout the forecast period as thermal ridging establishes itself east of the Rockies. Temperatures will read solidly in the mid to upper 70s during this time, with a chance to hit the low 80s at a few locations sprinkled throughout. Additionally, NBM 25th to 75th percentile spread shows a difference of only a few degrees, lending to a higher confidence forecast.

.AVIATION...for 00Z TAF Issuance Issued at 709 PM CDT Wed Sep 24 2025

Some MVFR ceilings will linger near Lake Michigan early this evening. Otherwise, VFR conditions are expected into the late evening, then look for some low stratus and fog development overnight into Thursday morning. Better prospects for widespread fog tonight due to lighter winds under 1000 ft and moisture trapped under an inversion, especially across north-central WI. But models are quite split on just how widespread the fog will become with SREF probabilities of under a half mile range from 50-75% in north-central WI, to 30-60% over much of eastern and central WI. Will continue to carry the lowest conditions (VLIFR/LIFR) at RHI where dense fog is expected, with TEMPO groups for some lower conditions elsewhere. Any fog or low clouds will burn off after sunrise with only a few daytime cumulus clouds expected the rest of the day.
