.DISCUSSION...

Smoke this morning lifted off the valley floors temporarily across Mono, Mineral and S. Lyon counties, but has since begun to settle back into the valleys this afternoon. We have continued the Dense Smoke Advisory through Wednesday 11 AM, since the Garnet Fire is continuing to burn. Keep checking with fire.airnow.gov for the latest air quality conditions for your local area.

Ample cloud cover is streaming in from the west, associated with the upper low that is bringing showers to northern California this afternoon. As the low spins closer to western Nevada, shower chances will increase this week. Today, the greatest chances will be in and around the Tahoe Basin (25-30%) and the leeside valleys (30-40%). Showers that form today are depicted by the CAMs to linger as stratiform rain over western Nevada through early Wednesday. Chances tick upward for Wednesday and Thursday, when 45-75% chances for showers and storms arrive to northeastern California and northwestern Nevada. Friday, we will see the chances sliding eastward as the low center of circulation lifts into Idaho and Montana.

The departure of the low pressure will allow for warming on Saturday, with dry air settling in under a small ridging pattern. The ridge will be transient in nature, and by Sunday will already be on it`s way out of here with another low pressure circulation filling in behind. Shower chances then return on Sunday, and will linger into Monday. Tuesday is depicted as a drier day for now, but is on the end of the long range forecast. As such, this may change, as blended guidance has varied solutions for Tuesday and beyond. HRICH

.AVIATION...

* VFR conditions for all terminals except KMMH, where smoke continues to impact visibilities. Afternoon gusts to 25 kts this afternoon may help to alleviate some smoke. The gusts will taper this evening, allowing smoke to filter into KMMH again tonight. For that reason, KMMH will experience LIFR/IFR conditions today and likely tomorrow as well. Slantwise visibilities will continue to be a concern for KMMH. HRICH
