1979 - Hurricane Frederick smashed into the Mobile Bay area of Alabama packing 132 mph winds. Winds gusts to 145 mph were reported as the eye of the hurricane moved over Dauphin Island AL, just west of Mobile. Frederick produced a fifteen foot storm surge near the mouth of Mobile Bay. The hurricane was the costliest in U.S. history causing 2.3 billion dollars damage.

Cascilla is an unincorporated rural hamlet located in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi. Cascilla is approximately 7 miles (11 km) southeast of Paynes and approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Charleston, at the intersection of Cascilla Road and Smith Road. There is a general store and post office along with several homes in the community.
Jamie L. Whitten, the second-longest serving U.S. Representative and the fifth-longest serving member of the U.S. Congress, was born in Cascilla.
