.SHORT TERM... (This evening through Thursday) Issued at 111 PM CDT Wed Sep 24 2025

The cold front has moved to the south of our forecast area today. Behind the front, showers and thunderstorms are pushing south into the I-10 corridor and southern Heartland. This activity is expected to remain sub severe, with the main hazards being heavy rainfall and dangerous lightning. The cold front and dense cloud cover has kept temperatures around 15 to 25 degrees cooler this afternoon compared to yesterday at this time. The rain will continue to push southeast, with most of the activity leaving the area by the late afternoon. However, we could have a few isolated storms hang around the I-10 corridor into the evening. Rain chances will end tonight, leaving tomorrow drier with temperatures right around normal (highs in the mid 80s).

.LONG TERM... (Thursday night through next Wednesday) Issued at 231 PM CDT Wed Sep 24 2025

A weak high pressure ridge develops for the remainder of this week, which will act to keep temperatures warm and dry. Then, the GFS and ECMWF both depict a low pressure developing across the southern end of California and Arizona. This system will weaken the higher pressure, but most of the rain will remain off to the west of our area through the weekend. By early next week, this low appears to weaken and move east towards the Plains. However, rain chances will still remain minimal through next week.

.AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1243 PM CDT Wed Sep 24 2025

The cold front has moved south of our terminals, leaving north winds across our area today. Showers will continue for a few more hours at KBBD, KSOA, and KJCT. Most of this activity will move out of our area by the late afternoon. MVFR CIGs will continue to scatter out and lift over the next few hours, leaving VFR conditions across the area for this evening and overnight.
