.SHORT TERM... (This evening through Wednesday) Issued at 1237 PM CDT Tue Sep 30 2025
After a few showers this morning across the far southeastern Texas Panhandle, mostly dry conditions are expected area-wide as the upper level shortwave ejects to the northeast in response to a building upper level ridge to our south. At the surface, winds will continue out of the southwest as a lee side low digs into portions of southeastern CO. Although height values remain near stationary, a subtle uptick in thickness values combined with the warm southerly surface flow and clear skies will lead to temperatures back in the 80s area-wide. Tonight, overnight lows will be slightly warmer, in the mid 50s to near 60 degrees as a warmer airmass remains locked in place. Heading into Wednesday, little overall change is expected, as the upper level high shifts overhead and subsidence maintain warming temperatures along with dry conditions.

.LONG TERM... (Wednesday night through next Monday) Issued at 1237 PM CDT Tue Sep 30 2025
Main theme of the long term is the potential for unseasonably warm temperatures towards the end of the work week. The upper level ridge will continue to amplify into portions of the Central Plains with center of the upper level high positioned across the Mexican Plateau. As a result, we will continue to see thickness and height values increase which combined with southwesterly flow at the surface will aid in temperatures climbing a few degrees each afternoon. Expect highs Thursday and Friday in the low to mid 90s which is about 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. Unfortunately, not much to report for precipitation this week as similar to the short term subsidence aloft will likely limit any shower and thunderstorm potential. The synoptic pattern begins to change this weekend, with the upper level ridge shifting eastward in response to an upper level shortwave trough translating through the Intermountain West. Height values associated with this system will allow highs across the region to drop a few degrees. Although still above seasonal normals, expect slightly cooler highs through the weekend in the upper 80s to lower 90s.
