.DISCUSSION... Issued at 219 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025
Early this afternoon, a weak surface boundary was draped across the forecast area in between high pressure to our north and high pressure to our southeast. Light surface winds will shift from the south-southwest to the north behind the boundary as it slowly nudges south before washing out tonight near I-70. Patchy fog may develop tonight/early tomorrow, especially in river valleys and near other water sources, as temps drop below the crossover temp and surface conditions near saturation south of the dissipating boundary. Lows tonight should range from the mid to upper 50s.
The surface ridge expands over the Great Lakes and Northeast tomorrow, allowing for southerly surface flow as a mid-level ridge builds over the central US. With that, temps will be a few degrees warmer Sunday afternoon as highs reach the mid and upper 80s -- a good ten degrees above average for late September. The pattern doesn`t change much until a shortwave trough axis moves out over the High Plains on Tuesday. Additional cloud cover with the system will allow for slightly cooler temperatures, although still above average. Another mid- level ridge builds in after that, keeping conditions dry and warm through the upcoming workweek.
